Banned Books Week

9/27/2010

Banned Books Week is an annual campaign to celebrate the freedom to read by drawing attention to banned and challenged books.  What does it all mean?  It means that there are groups and individuals who attempt to (and sometimes succeed) in having books removed from library shelves and school reading lists because of "inappropriate" subject matter, viewpoints, or language.  Banned Books Week promotes the right to keep material publicly available so that people can develop their own conclusions and opinions.
